Effort Control in 2008

The Federation is scheduled to meet senior DEFRA officials on Tuesday 15th January to discuss the future of the effort control regime.  The Scottish Government is determined to trial a system of effort based on a national ‘pot’ of Kw days rather than the present gear categories.

The NFFO is strongly opposed to a system which will make it more difficult to throw off effort restrictions in the future and is highly sceptical about the generous terms being offered by the Commission to ease the introduction of the new system.
